Song chosen to do a deconstruction and reconstruction: Lana Del Rey 'Summertime Sadness'

Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That, baby, you're the best

I got my red dress on tonight

Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight

Done my hair up real big beauty queen style

High heels off, I'm feeling alive

Oh, my God, I feel it in the air

Telephone wires above are sizzling like a snare

Honey, I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere

Nothing scares me anymore

(1, 2, 3, 4)

Kiss me hard before you go

Summertime sadness

I just wanted you to know

That, baby, you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh, oh

I'm feelin' electric tonight

Cruising down the coast goin' 'bout 99

Got my bad baby by my heavenly side

I know if I go, I'll die happy tonight

Oh, my God, I feel it in the air

Telephone wires above are sizzling like a snare

Honey, I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere

Nothing scares me anymore

(1, 2, 3, 4)

Kiss me hard before you go

Summertime sadness

I just wanted you to know

That, baby, you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh, oh

I think I'll miss you forever

Like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky

Later's better than never

Even if you're gone I'm gonna drive (drive, drive)

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh, oh

Kiss me hard before you go

Summertime sadness

I just wanted you to know

That, baby, you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh, oh

Our final music video reconstruction

Summertime sadness Evaluation
Whilst doing our reconstruction of Lana Del Rey 'Summertime Sadness' we faced a lot of challenges which we had to overcome.

The first challenge we faced were location issues. Because we filmed in and around college we found it hard to replicate the location in the video and therefore we had to come up with another solution. The ideas we came up with were to film over the weekend but many of the group had work commitments and therefore that idea was not used, the second idea was to film in different locations which we used and worked well. The location changes meant a lot of time had to be committed to the project for location changes as we didn't have transport.

The second challenge we faced was that members of my group were often missing and they had things that we needed to make the video. Time was often spent getting the song on our phones and therefore time was wasted. Also time was wasted looking back at the original footage instead of using a storyboard which I realised was a vital part of post-production.

Another challenge we faced was that there was a scene in the original video were Lana Del Rey free falls off a high platform and that was going to prove to be the hardest challenge as we had to come up with a way of making it look as though our performer was also doing the same without causing damage or hurting our performer. We came up with many ideas but the one we went with was to film our performer in the brace position and then cut to the next shot which seemed sensible and without risks.

Our falling position

The last challenged we faced was that we had to have an elegant old vintage style gate for our performer to stand in front of for a scene in the video, however as we filmed around college it was hard to find a gate that reflected those characteristics and had to opt for a gate that didn't look anything like the one in the video which meant that the style of the overall video was affected. After filming the sequence we realised that we could of searched for a location that held a gate of those characteristics. After showing the video back to the group that was the only element to our video which we really found difficult to overcome. From this mistake I have learnt that it is key to getting mise-en-scene right to create an overall affect and therefore stick within the aims and context of your chosen music video. I also learnt that better preparation and research is key to making an aesthetically pleasing overall product.

The gate we used which didn't hold any key characteristics to the gate in the video.

In conclusion I have learnt that to make a successful product that will reflect your ideas and the genre you must put time into preparation and research, also time has to be spent wisely so that production time isn't affected also you have to be able to pick a group wisely who you know will be there and be willing to put time and effort into post-production and production, I would have to say that was the only thing I regretted about the whole project.
